New Buses Announced For Festival Lights Tour

Post Date:12/15/2016

Whitehorse – The Santa Land & Festival Lights Tour is taking place at Shipyards Park on Saturday, December 17 from 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm. Activities, food and festivities are planned, as well as Polar Express bus tours.

Everyone is welcome to take the Polar Express bus tours with Whitehorse Transit. Buses will depart from Shipyards Park at 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm. Admission is by food or cash donation to the Whitehorse Food Bank.

Two brand new buses will be unveiled for the Lights Tour. In memory of Dave Muir, dearly departed Manager of Operations, the seat covers will be finished similar to the Muir tartan. Dave was of Scottish heritage and this will be proudly honoured on our new buses for years to come.

The purchase of our two new Transit buses was made possible thanks to investment from the Government of Canada’s federal Gas Tax Fund.

“I hope everyone has a wonderful time at the Festival. It’s promising to be a great event! I am glad that the buses bringing residents on the Polar Express were funded by the federal Gas Tax Fund. It is always great to see the positive impacts these investments bring to our communities.”

The Honourable Larry Bagnell, Member of Parliament for Yukon, on behalf of
Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities

“We are very appreciative of the federal Gas Tax Fund and our partners at Yukon Government. Transit is an essential service to all our citizens and the addition of these two new buses will ensure that we continue to meet the demands of our growing community. Since we have extended our Transit hours we have seen a steady increase in users reaching over 500,000 rides per year. I would like to encourage everyone to see these wonderful new buses unveiled at the Festival of Lights Tour this weekend.”

Dan Curtis
Mayor of Whitehorse

Key Facts:
