Canada Day Celebrates 150 Years

Post Date:05/05/2017 1:30 PM

WHITEHORSE - 2017 is a particularly significant year in Canada because the nation is turning 150 years old. In the land of the midnight sun, what better way to celebrate than with a 24-hour celebration for Canada Day 150? The City of Whitehorse, in partnership with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 254, will be the hosts of the Canada 150 Canada Day Celebration in Whitehorse.

We are pleased to announce a federal contribution of $175,000 from the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Canada 150 Fund to host 24 Hours of Canada Day – Canada’s 150th Birthday Celebration.

The celebration will bring together all visitors, artists, athletes, musicians, and residents young and old for an inclusive and family oriented celebration of Canada for 24 hours.

Headlining the event will be indie rock band July Talk, from Toronto, Ontario. Founded in 2012, they have gained a reputation for explosive performances from across the globe. Their highly anticipated second album ‘Touch’ released in 2016 has received critical acclaim and has now earned them their second Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year.

The celebration will be held on July 1, 2017 and feature an outdoor multicultural celebration, free to all patrons, situated in Shipyards Park and along the Yukon River waterfront trail.

The anticipated attendance for this event is 10,000 people over 24 hours, which will feature many local organizations who wish to participate and offer programming for this event.
