Household Hazardous Waste Day
September 16, 10 am to 5 pm
The City is holding its Fall Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Day on Saturday, September 16th from 10am – 5pm, at the Whitehorse Waste Management Facility (6 km north of downtown at Mile 919.72 Alaska Highway). The City is constantly working on improving your HHW experience and traffic control will be on site to help control flow for landfill users and HHW participants.
HHW materials include motor oil and their containers, solvents, gasoline, BBQ starter, anti-freeze, household cleaning products, compact fluorescent light bulbs, pesticides, aerosol cans and other containers under pressure such as bear spray and propane canisters. Commercial hazardous waste is not accepted and regular tipping fees apply for all non-HHW waste (including computers and TVs).

“As part of our efforts to ensure that hazardous materials are disposed of properly and stay out of the landfill, the City hosts HHW Days. This opportunity is the best way of disposing of our hazardous waste responsibly. We encourage residents not to put these toxic materials in their compost or garbage carts,” said Environmental Coordinator Bryna Cable.
