City Pilots Dedicated Bus Lane Along Lewes Boulevard

Post Date:01/09/2018

WHITEHORSE – Whitehorse Transit is piloting a dedicated bus lane project in Riverdale aimed at reducing congestion and transit delays during the morning commute.

Every morning between January 15 and 19, a dedicated traffic lane will be open for Whitehorse Transit buses only along Lewes Boulevard from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m.

Pylons will be placed along the route from its start at the Grey Mountain Elementary School to its end at the traffic lights by the Hospital Road. Parents of students attending Selkirk Elementary School and F.H. Collins Secondary School are reminded not to park along any part of Lewes Boulevard during this pilot project.

The results of this pilot project will be studied and will ultimately inform the development of the Transit Master Plan recommendations.

“As it stands Transit buses are delayed up to 17 minutes coming out of Riverdale during this busy morning period,” said Transit Manager Cheri Malo. “By improving public transit, the City can also make air quality better and help commuters reach their destinations safer and faster.”

Changes in traffic flow will be monitored by on-site observers and cameras. A feedback survey will be available following the conclusion of the pilot project at www.whitehorse.ca/transitpilotlane
