City Announces Volunteer of the Year
WHITEHORSE – Linda Enders is the City of Whitehorse 2017 Volunteer of the Year.
Enders was nominated by the Women's Auxiliary to the Whitehorse General Hospital for her volunteer work during the past 36 years. She was recognized for her “quiet, humble and unassuming ways, all of which have made a real difference” to our community.
Mayor Dan Curtis announced Linda Enders as the City’s Volunteer of the Year at last night’s annual volunteer reception. Enders was chosen from an impressive group of 17 volunteers who were recognized at the reception, as Councillor Betty Irwin shared highlights from their nominations.
According to Truska Gorrell of the Women's Auxiliary to the Whitehorse General Hospital, Linda Enders has taken on the responsibility of pushing the tuck cart around the hospital to raise funds and make life more comfortable for anyone who is a patient in the hospital. For a number of years, Enders also donated large cakes to both Macaulay Lodge and Copper Ridge Place, which she would even serve to their residents herself.
“Linda Enders sets a tremendous example for all Whitehorse citizens, through the service she provides to her community as an exceptional volunteer,” said Mayor Dan Curtis.
Volunteers were nominated for this award by a number of organizations who recognized their outstanding volunteer efforts and contributions.
“The City’s Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes how much is done by volunteers in our community. Congratulations to all the nominees. It truly is an honour to be nominated,” said Mayor Curtis.
