Work relating to the Schwatka Lake West Shore Launch Reconstruction is set to commence. Mobilization of the site will begin on May 23, 2017 to store materials and commence grading. Installation of the new launch is anticipated to begin on June 6, with inspections to conclude by June 20.  
The launch area will be fenced off and inaccessible to the public during this time. Pilots are advised to launch, by appointment, from the Black Sheep Aviation lease area (info@flyblacksheep.ca335-0011). Boaters are advised to use the public boat launch located on the east shore at the Schwatka Lake Day Use Area, accessed from Chadburn Lake Road (view map).

Schwatka Lake Area Plan

On March 9, 2015, City Council adopted the Schwatka Lake Area Plan as a guiding document for aviation, recreation, conservation, and other land uses and activities on the west shore of Schwatka Lake. The Area Plan provides 37 recommendations for infrastructure and management improvements that were developed through an extensive public consultation process. The City and Urban Systems Ltd. extend a big thank you! to everyone who participated.

Implementation and Working Group

A Working Group has been organized to help oversee implementation of the recommendations listed in the Schwatka Lake Area Plan – if you would like to take part, send us an email to be added to the group.

  • Schwatka Lake Waterfront Policy repealed / Dock Policy and Standards adopted (March 29, 2016) 
  • Speed limit reduction to 40 km/hr on Miles Canyon Road adopted (January 11, 2016)
  • Official Community Plan amendments adopted (August 31, 2015)
  • Fees and Charges Bylaw amendments adopted (July 13, 2015)
