Bicycles
You can take your bike on the bus everywhere that Whitehorse Transit goes. Combining cycling with taking the bus means you can ride downhill one way, and let the bus do the uphill work.
Buses can securely carry two bikes on the front rack. If the bus is not full, bikes may ride inside the bus, at the driver’s discretion.
Cyclists pay the regular passenger fare, but bikes ride free.
You are responsible for loading and unloading your bike into the rack, but it’s easy! Please note: drivers may not leave the bus to help load or unload bikes.
- Before the bus arrives, remove loose items such as water bottles, pumps, and panniers that could fall off while the bus is moving. Let departing passengers remove their bikes first.
- Tell the driver you want to load your bike
- Lower the rack by pulling up on the handle.
- Lift your bike onto the rack by putting the tires into the slots. If no other bike is on the rack, place your bike in the slot closest to the bus.
- Lift the support arm up and over the front tire.
- Sit at the front of the bus and keep an eye on your bike.
This video shows how to use the bike racks.
- When leaving the bus, tell the driver that you need to remove your bike. Exit from the front door.
- Pull the support hook down to free the front tire.
- Remove your bike and raise the rack to the upright position if it’s empty.
- Signal to the driver when you are clear of the bus.
- Always load and unload from the curb, not from the street.
- Don’t lock your bike to the rack
- After removing your bike, raise the rack to upright position if it’s empty.
The City of Whitehorse is not responsible for damages caused to bicycles on Whitehorse Transit.
