The City of Whitehorse provides on-street accessible parking stalls to aid people with disabilities. Accessible parking stalls are parking stalls that are exclusively reserved for people with mobility impairments, and can only be used by vehicles displaying a valid and current accessible parking permit.
Accessible parking stalls are typically:
- Installed at the end of the block
- Installed with an accessible curb ramp
- Installed with specific signage and pavement markings
- Designed wider than regular parking stalls
Accessible parking stalls are not typically installed mid-block.
The City is not always in a position to provide accessible parking stalls right in front of a business, especially at the middle of a block. Extensive infrastructure work is required to provide an accessible ramp, signage, pavement markings and drainage infrastructure, and the locations and entrances of businesses change frequently throughout the city. For this reason, the City prefers to install accessible parking stalls at the end of a block and close to street intersections.
The City provides loading zones near properties that have a demonstrated need for short-term duration parking for commercial, general loading, or passenger loading purposes. Loading zones are typically very short term (5-30 minutes) to encourage high parking turnover. Though a loading zone may be placed in front of a business, loading zones are not exclusively reserved for any single property.

Main Street Parkade
The City parking lot at the end of Main Street, next to the Whitehorse United Church, has a new pay station, as of June 2018.
Customers can pay in new and different ways. Just follow these easy steps:
- Select an empty spot and park your car;
- Go to the pay machine and follow the directions on the screen;
- Select the length of your stay. Parking costs 50 ¢ per hour;
- You can use coins (any denomination) or a credit card (Visa or Mastercard); and
- Collect your receipt and display it face up on your dashboard.
Payment is only required from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday – however, the new pay station accepts payment in advance of those hours, from 7:30 a.m. onwards.
For example, a customer can pay for two hours of parking if they enter the parkade between 7:30 and 9 a.m. and their receipt will cover their parking fees from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., as long as it is clearly displayed on their vehicle’s dashboard.
The lot remains available for free parking Monday to Friday between 6 p.m. and 9 a.m., as well as all day on Saturdays and Sundays.
Visitors are reminded that they can obtain a FREE 3 day Parking Pass from the Yukon Visitor Information Centre. This allows visitors to park at parking meters for free.
A visit to the Information Centre will also allow visitors to easily find, in one place, the many things that Whitehorse and the Yukon have to offer. Trained staff are on duty to help answer a variety of questions.
Vehicles bearing non-Yukon licence plates are subject to the same parking regulations as Yukon residents pursuant to the City of Whitehorse Traffic Bylaw.
Parking Meter and Traffic enforcement within the Central Business District provides Yukon residents and visitors consistent opportunities to park on city streets as a result of continual turnover of parking availability for incoming motorists.
