Mayor’s Statement on findings at former Choutla Residential School

On behalf of the City of Whitehorse, I want to offer our deepest condolences following today’s announcement by the Yukon Residential School Missing Children Project on the discovery of potential grave-like features on the site of the former Choutla Residential School in Carcross, Yukon.

We are closely watching these events as they unfold and know these findings are a tragic validation of the stories told by survivors for decades.

We acknowledge the pain and grief once again rippling through our community. These are difficult days for so many in our city and beyond but we are ready to support in any way we can.
