Pink Shirt Day is an international movement against bullying. It started in Berwick, Nova Scotia in 2007 after a high school student was bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school and, in response, two of his classmates bought 50 pink shirts and encouraged their classmates to wear pink.
Now, Pink Shirt Day is recognized annually across Canada on the last Wednesday of each February.
To show support for the cause, on February 28th City staff will be wearing pink shirts as well as pink Whitehorse wristbands. The custom wristbands are meant to raise awareness and also have the contact information for the Kids Help Phone embossed on the inside.
The City is committed to creating a vibrant, safe and caring environment that ensures all people are treated with respect, honesty, and dignity.
