The recent heavy snowfall combined with near-zero degree temperatures has created challenging conditions for commuters as well as crews working on snow and ice control.
In light of the warm temperatures, and to ensure residential neighbourhood roads remain passable, the City will be shifting its snow plowing efforts to Priority 3 roads in the coming hours and days.
This work is expected to create windrows at the end of residential driveways. The City apologizes in advance for the inconvenience and will work to minimize the inconvenience where possible. The work is necessary, however, to ensure residential neighbourhoods remain accessible.
While this important work is in progress, City crews and contractors will also continue to clear trails, sidewalks and bus stops throughout Whitehorse, as well as accessibility ramps in the downtown core.
We recognize that the heavy snowfall creates challenging conditions for residents. We appreciate your patience as we adapt to conditions and continue to remove snow from the more than 600 km of roads and trails within the city.
Residents are asked to be patient, careful and drive to conditions as snow clearing continues. Please pay attention to signs, go slow when you see crews and equipment at work and make sure to give them space to work safely.
