WHITEHORSE – Mayor Laura Cabott presented a cheque in the amount of $3,575 this morning to the Whitehorse Food Bank and Kaushee’s Place, as part of the annual Food for Fines campaign.
In addition, the City of Whitehorse raised $1,950 in food donations for a grand total of $5,525.
“I would like to thank the community for its generosity during this campaign,” said Laura Cabott. “Thank you to the Food Bank and Kaushee’s Place for providing such an important service to the community and for continuing to help families in need during the holiday season. And lastly, thank you to our Bylaw Services department and customer service representatives for their hard work this month, it’s greatly appreciated.”
The Food for Fines campaign gives the option of donating cash or food of equal value to a parking ticket. Parking meter ticket fines received between December 4 and 11 were eligible, and donations were accepted until December 15.
Since 2006, the City has raised over $80,000 in cash and food donations for this important cause.
