Robert Service Way Escarpment Slide Update #4

Post Date:05/12/2022 4:39 PM

Whitehorse – Surveying of the escarpment is showing signs of significant movement with new tensions cracks observed, ground water continuing to flow down the face of the escarpment, and mud flows occurring in the afternoons. These signs indicate there is potential for the escarpment to slide again.

The City will implement temporary mitigation and risk reduction measures in the area of the slide, which will allow crews to begin clean up, and re-open the road.

It will take a few weeks for the City to fully acquire the necessary equipment and material, and to remove the debris. The area will continue to remain closed until further notice, and the public is instructed to avoid the area.

Commuters should continue to anticipate delays in travel time and increased traffic congestion. Please allow for more travel time, and consider carpooling, using transit, choosing active transportation, or working from home, where possible.

We thank the public for their patience and cooperation during this time.
