Escarpment Slide Update #6

Post Date:05/19/2022 3:17 PM

Whitehorse – Clean up of Robert Service Way is set to begin next week and construction of temporary slide mitigation to follow.

Subject to conditions, construction is anticipated to be completed by early June, and once finished, the roadway can re-open with possible traffic control in place.

The escarpment in the eastern airport trail area is continuing to show signs of significant activity, including growing tension cracks, and flowing groundwater and mud.

Fenced perimeters have been placed around active sites to mitigate any potential impacts to surrounding properties. The City’s contracted geotechnical engineers consider this fencing to be a sufficient mitigation measure.

The City and its geotechnical engineers actively monitor the entire escarpment, and respond to any slide events.

If you witness a slide, please report it to the City’s trouble line at 667-2111.

We thank the public for their patience and cooperation during this time.
