The City of Whitehorse is updating the fare structure for all Vehicle for Hire services.
Whitehorse residents will notice increases to distance rates and waiting time fees for cabs and other Vehicle for Hire services beginning Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
Fees will increase from $0.25 per 1/9 of a kilometre or 12 seconds of waiting time to $0.30.
This will mark the first time in nearly 10 years that the Vehicle for Hire fare structure has been updated. The update reflects changes over the last decade to fuel prices, insurance premiums and the cost of vehicle maintenance.
The updated fare structure will support the financial sustainability of the Vehicle for Hire industry and improve service quality for passengers.
The City’s Bylaw Department worked extensively with the Vehicle for Hire industry in developing the new fare structure that balances affordability for passengers with fair compensation to operators, better reflecting the current economic realities faced by operators while also improving service to passengers.
