WHITEHORSE – The City’s new curbside recycling service will begin on December 3.
Households currently eligible for the City’s Curbside Collection of waste and organics will receive blue bins and bags from the City’s contractor, Whitehorse Blue Bin Recycling, starting the week of November 18. Bi-weekly pickup of mixed rigid packaging and mixed paper will begin on Tuesday, December 3. The service schedule and sorting guide are available at whitehorse.ca/recycling.
Eligible households will be charged $12.50 per month for the recycling service, with the fee automatically added to the utility services bill. The total cost to provide the service is $25 per month, with half of the cost covered by funding from the Government of Yukon.
Temporary fees to cover curbside recycling collection will only be in place until the start date of a new stewardship program under the Yukon’s new Extended Producer Responsibility Regulation.
Country-residential and multi-family residences not receiving curbside collection as well as small businesses can use the City’s Recycling Depot at the Waste Management Facility or reach out to a private service provider to arrange collection.
