Animal Shelter
Bylaw Services enforces the Animal Control Bylaw and operates the City of Whitehorse Animal Shelter located at 9032 Quartz Road.
The Animal Control Bylaw establishes standards for the provision of needs, provides for dog and cat licenses, and regulates the number of animals allowed in the various subdivision areas of the city.
Licensing Your Animal
Dogs and cats are required to be licensed within the City of Whitehorse. You can obtain a licence at the following location:
City Hall
2121 Second Avenue
8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Monday to Friday (excluding Statutory Holidays)
Licensing Cost
Lifetime tag $27.50 (animal is spayed or neutered)
Yearly tag $50 (animal has not been spayed or neutered)
Animals with yearly tags must be renewed at the beginning of each calendar year. If your animal is microchipped and spayed or neutered then your Lifetime tag is free.
Please remember to bring proof of spay/neuter, vaccinations and microchip if you have it when purchasing the licence.

When applicable, some of the animals may be available for adoption. Call us to add your name to our adoption list.
