Outdoor Spaces
The newly rehabilitated Puckett's Gulch Stairway, also known as the Black Street Stairs.
Operating hours are sunup to sundown during the summer.
Located in the Mount McIntyre Recreation area, the park is the ideal environment for both learning and progressing skills on two wheels. Tabletop jumps, skinnies, teeter totters, wall rides and drops...this park has enough thrills to keep all ages and abilities challenged! Dirt n' Soul is co-managed by Contagious Mountain Bike Club and the City of Whitehorse. A big thanks to both Contagious and the Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club for bringing a world-class biking resource to our community. Designed and built by pro-rider Jay Hoots with assistance from hard-working volunteers and the City of Whitehorse Trail Crew. Helmets are mandatory.
Parents - parks and playgrounds are not just for kids!
Come for a workout at one of our new outdoor fitness stations. You can find them at the following locations:
- At the corner of Nisutlin Drive and Selkirk Street
- Next to the playground at Rotary Peace Park
- At the bottom of the Black Street Stairs
- In the playground at Jim Light Park
- Next to the playground at Copper Ridge Park
Each fitness station includes a mix of equipment that allows users to target each of the major muscle groups and provide exercises for cardiovascular, strength and flexibility training. Signs explain how to use the equipment properly and safely.
In partnership with neighbourhood residents, Parks installs and maintains approximately 30 outdoor skating rinks throughout the city.
Every fall, neighbourhood representatives submit applications to have the rink in their area activated for the upcoming winter. These representatives are always looking for volunteers to help clear the snow to make the rinks ready for flooding by our department.
If you would like to contribute to active living in your neighbourhood, please contact Parks, and we can direct you to your neighbourhood representative.
Would you like to have an outdoor skating rink in your neighbourhood?
Identify a suitable location
The site must be owned or leased by the City of Whitehorse. If the skating rink is new, ensure the area is level, accessible to a water truck and safe for children.
Commitment
Obtain a commitment from other people in your neighbourhood who are willing to help prepare, and maintain the outdoor rink throughout the season. Identify a rink contact person for the application; this person is responsible for coordinating snow clearing of the rink as per the weekly flooding schedule.
Funding
Funding may be available to construct or upgrade your community rink. The City offers financial assistance through Recreation Grants to encourage volunteer community groups, and organizations to further improve and develop recreation opportunities for Whitehorse citizens.
For more information, please contact Jeremy Raymond at 867-668-8656 or at Jeremy.Raymond@whitehorse.ca.
The annual deadline for outdoor rink applications is October 1.
