20-Minute Makeover Neighbourhood Edition

On May 25, we invite you to take 20 minutes and join us from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. for our special 20-Minute Makeover: Neighbourhood Edition.

This year we’re encouraging you and your neighbours to team up and clean up your favourite parks, trails, and recreation areas. We’ll have designated locations throughout the City where you can pick up free bags and gloves as well as drop off collected waste.

If you drop off garbage at one of our designated locations, you can also enter a draw to win some great prizes like a $50 Local Gift Card.

Not sure where to clean up in your neighbourhood? Check out our map below with all of the suggested clean up areas along with the designated locations and collection sites across Whitehorse.

Whitehorse prides itself as being the Wilderness City as we share our mountain community with a breadth of wildlife including bears, foxes, coyotes, and lynx, to name a few. Littering within our wildlife corridors and recreation areas has a range of negative environmental impacts: food waste can attract wildlife and lead to negative human-wildlife encounters, while waste products like motor oil and plastics can degrade wildlife habitats and have adverse effects on our forest and freshwater ecosystems.

As a reminder, stay safe on trails and roadways – carry bear spray when entering forested areas and wear bright clothing when cleaning along roadways. You can also report illegal dumping activity to Bylaw Services at 667-2111.

Let’s play our part to keep our neighbourhoods clean and wildlife corridors healthy!
