This page is where you can find the most accurate and up-to-date information on these and other items related to the 2024 Whitehorse Municipal Election.

We will be updating this page in the lead-up to the election. Be sure to check back often for the additional information!

As per section 48(1) of the Municipal Act, to be eligible to vote in the 2024 Whitehorse Municipal Election you need to:

  • Be a Canadian Citizen.
  • Be 18 years or older on the day of the Election (October 17, 2024)
  • Have been a resident of and have resided in Whitehorse for at least one year prior to October 17, 2024.

You also need to be registered to vote in the Municipal Election.  See the “How Do I Register to Vote?” section.

Individuals can register to vote online, in-person, or by mail starting September 3 until October 9, 2024.

For online registration, a link will be available on this site for individuals to check to see if they are registered for the upcoming election, and if not, to register online.

Photo ID to register

Each person registering to vote will need to provide one piece of photo identification with their full legal name and residential address in order to complete their registration – for example, a Yukon Driver’s Licence.

For online registration, you photo ID can be scanned and uploaded through the registration link that will be posted on September 3.

For in-person or mail-in registration, your photo ID can be presented in person, or a colour copy can provided by mail.

In the event you do not have a piece of photo ID with your residential address, you will need to also provide another official document with your name (matching your photo ID) and your residential address – for example a utility bill.

This document provides prospective candidates for the 2024 Whitehorse Municipal Election with essential information about running for office.

It outlines the responsibilities of serving on the City Council, including the time commitment and duties involved.

The package also details the eligibility requirements, nomination process, key election dates, and guidelines for campaigning, including advertising and signage rules.

Additionally, it offers insights into what candidates can expect if elected, such as onboarding procedures and the structure of the Council.

Nominations

Nominations for Mayor and Council will open on September 10, 2024. Nomination forms and information packages for prospective Council members will be available at City Hall or online after September 10, 2024.

Nomination papers are due at City Hall on Thursday, September 26 between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.

Please note that late nominations will NOT be accepted under any circumstances.

Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at locations around Whitehorse.

The special ballot poll closes at 2 p.m. All special ballots must be received by 2 p.m. on Election Day (either received through mail or in the drop boxes).

Preliminary results will be available and posted on the site on Election Day after the polls close and the votes are counted.

Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at locations around Whitehorse.

Polling locations will be made public closer to the Election Day.

The Special Ballot poll closes at 2 p.m. All Special Ballots must be received by 2 p.m. on Election Day (either received through mail or in the drop boxes).
