Information for Candidates – 2024 Municipal Election

Are you interested in running for Whitehorse City Council?

A candidate information package will be posted in the coming days.

Prospective candidates may announce their intention to run at any time, but only those who are eligible to run for office and submit complete nomination forms before the deadline will become official candidates in the 2024 Municipal Election.

Nominations

Nominations open on September 10.  Candidate packages will be available at City Hall.

Nominations can be submitted until noon on September 26.

To be eligible to run for Mayor or Council, you must be a qualified voter. This means you must

  • be at least 18 years old on Election Day (October 17, 2024)
  • be a Canadian citizen
  • have been a resident of Whitehorse for at least one year prior to Election Day (October 17, 2024).

You must also be nominated by at least 10 people who are qualified as voters in the City of Whitehorse.

The City does not publish the names of potential candidates until the nomination period closes on September 26.  At that time, the official Notice of Poll will include the list of candidates and other election information. We will also post information on the confirmed candidates on our website.
