Whitehorse – The City’s Water and Waste department would like to remind residents to properly sort items before placing them into green carts.
Lately, a number of non-organic items such as medical masks, scrap metal and food packaging have been found in green carts.
It’s important to separate all non-organic material such as plastics, metals, and other garbage – contamination can have far-reaching, long lasting impacts.
Please use black carts for garbage and bring recyclable materials to a local recycling facility.
If you’re unsure whether an item is compostable, look for a compostable logo or use the City’s What Goes Where? app. The City regularly updates its waste sorting guide to stay up-to-date with your questions and sorting needs.
