Our Recycling Depot is located at the Waste Management Facility. Country-residential and multi-family residences, as well as small businesses can bring their recyclables to the Depot. Residents can drop off non-refundable recycling for $1 per bag/container (maximum 90 litres per bag/container).

Starting April 1, 2025, residential recyclable material loads will be charged by weight at a rate of $132.50 per tonne (approximately $0.06 per pound). No minimum fee applies for recyclables if they are brought separately. Mixed loads will be charged the highest applicable fee.

Fees on residential recyclable materials will only remain in effect until the launch of the Yukon’s Extended Producer Responsibility program for packaging and paper products on November 1, 2025, after which the City’s temporary recycling programs are scheduled to end.

Bring your refundable recyclables such as cans, bottles, milk jugs, and other beverage containers to a local depot for a refund.

Bring glass (clean, lids removed), electronic waste, metals, textiles and batteries to Raven ReCentre for no charge.

How much will it cost to take my waste to the landfill?

Starting April 1, 2025, loads at the City’s Waste Management Facility will be charged by weight, including small residential loads.

A new scale has been installed at the entrance to the Waste Management Facility. Your vehicle will be weighed upon entry and exit of the facility to determine the disposal fee for your load.

Fees are based on the weight and category of waste in the load. For a full list of waste disposal rates, click here.

Mixed loads will be charged the highest applicable fee.

Waste loads and mixed loads under 45 kilograms (100 pounds) will be charged a minimum fee of $6.00.

No minimum fee applies for recyclables or organics if they are brought separately.

Household hazardous waste is still free to dispose of, if brought separately, every Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm.

How much does a typical load cost?

You can expect a slight change in the cost of a typical load depending on what it includes.

For example, at current rates, a load of 8 bags of household waste costs $12 to dispose.  If that load of 8 bags weighs less than 90kg (200 lbs), it will cost less to dispose under the new rates.

Loads under 45 kg (100 lb) will be charged the minimum fee of $6.00.

The total cost depends on the weight and type of waste. Mixed loads will be charged the highest applicable fee.

Here are some examples of how much some common loads will cost:

  • A load of household waste weighing 75 kg (165 lb) will cost $10 to drop off
  • A 250 lb refrigerator will cost $66 to drop off
  • A 100 lb mattress will cost $26 to drop off

How much does recycling cost?

No minimum fee applies for recyclables if they are brought separately.  Mixed loads will be charged the highest applicable fee.

Starting April 1, 2025, residential recyclable material loads will be charged by weight at a rate of $132.50 per tonne (approximately $0.06 per pound).

Fees on residential recyclable materials will only remain in effect until the launch of the Yukon’s Extended Producer Responsibility program for packaging and paper products on November 1, 2025, at which time the City’s temporary recycling programs will end.

How much does organic waste cost?

No minimum fee applies for organics if they are brought separately. Mixed loads will be charged the highest applicable fee.

Starting April 1, 2025, organics, brush and clean wood loads will be charged by weight at a rate of $72.50 per tonne (approx. $0.03 per pound).

How will I be charged if I have multiple types of waste to drop off?

If you drop off a mixed load, you will be charged the highest applicable fee.

For a full list of waste disposal rates, click here.

Here are some examples of how much some common mixed loads will cost:

  • A mixed load of household waste and recycling weighing less than 45 kg (100 lb) will cost $6 to drop off
  • A mixed load of household recycling, household waste, and organics weighing 75 kg (165 lb) will cost $10 to drop off.
  • A mixed load of household waste weighing 50 lb and a 250 lb refrigerator will cost $$69.50 to drop off.

If I bring a load of recycling or organics and waste, do I still have to pay the minimum fee?

As of April 1, 2025, all vehicles will be weighed upon entry and exit of the Waste Management Facility to determine the disposal fee.

No minimum fee applies for recyclables or organics if they are brought separately.

Mixed loads will be charged the highest applicable fee.

Mixed loads under 45 kilograms (100 pounds) will be charged a minimum fee of $6.00.

Why are the fees changing?

The Waste Management Facility operates on a cost recovery basis, meaning fees collected for services—such as waste drop off —directly fund the cost of providing them. As waste management costs have increased, the fees have been adjusted to ensure continued operation and service delivery.

Implementing a weight-based tipping fee system will ensure consistent fees for all users.

Council approved the fee change as part of the 2025-2027 Operating Budget.

I still have questions.
