Statement from Mayor Cabott on the 2027 Canada Winter Games Bid

Whitehorse City Council has voted to support a bid to host the 2027 Canada Winter Games.

This important milestone marks the beginning of our journey to co-host the games with the Government of Yukon. In the coming weeks, the Canada Winter Games Council will visit the City and issue a final decision in November.

If successful, a Host Committee will be established and the City will begin the important planning work needed to support the games, and the thousands of athletes and participants.

On behalf of Mayor and Council, I want to thank the bid committee for all their work compiling a comprehensive and visionary bid for the 2027 Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse. The bid proposal laid the foundation for what will be a historic event for our city, and for future generations of Yukoners.

These games will see positive economic impacts upwards of $100 million dollars, and legacy investments that will improve access to housing and world class-athletic space for Yukon’s athletes.
