The impact of improvements to Whitehorse Transit is continuing to be seen in its growing ridership.
In July, Transit clocked a 49% increase in its ridership. Residents and visitors took 78,000 trips on city buses, an increase of 25,000 over July 2023 when 53,000 were taken.
This increase comes in the same month the City implemented the second phase of its transit modernization plan. More efficient routes were established for Copper Ridge and Riverdale, along with service to Valleyview and late-night drop-off Service on weekends and holidays.
It is part of an ongoing effort to improve the system. In 2023, the first phase of the modernization plan saw enhancements to its north end routes, including the addition of a new Whistle Bend route.
Other initiatives in recent years include the introduction of the TransLoc and Token Transit apps. Riders can use TransLoc to see where their bus is in real time.
Token Transit lets riders buy individual bus tickets or passes on their smartphones and board the bus by showing the driver the ticket or pass on their phone.
