In April 2015, in partnership with the Kwanlin Dün First Nation, the City hosted a “Vulnerable People at Risk” Forum. At this event the participants were reminded of the legacy of residential schools and the impact they had on many First Nation families and the community.
On June 2, 2015 the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) released the Final Report and Calls to Action to all levels of government and the parties to the Settlement Agreement. The City acknowledged the TRC Final Report at a Special Council meeting on September 28, 2015.
The City’s Canadian Coalition of Municipalities Against Racism and Discrimination advisory committee also recommended the City add its voice to the call for a National Inquiry on Murdered and Missing Aboriginal Girls and Women.
In May 2016, the City released a Action Plan that addresses several of the TRC’s 94 Calls to Action.
On June 19, 2018, the City unveiled a new bus wrap that featured work by local KDFN and Ta’an artists. The celebrations were held in partnership with Yukon First Nations Culture and Tourism Association, Kwanlin Dün First Nation, Ta’an Kwächän Council, and the City of Whitehorse.
